What is Yoga?

Yoga is a practice that has been uniting mind, body, and spirit holistically for thousands of years, originating from India; and you do not have to be incredibly flexible to gain the benefits. In Sanskrit the translation of yoga translates to, "yoke" or "unite," reflecting on yogas philosophy on life. Through the union of movement, breath-work, self-study and meditative practices yoga allows us to lead a balanced lifestyle, whilst finding a focus on a meaningful outlook on life. The ultimate goal of Yoga is to reach 'samadhi', or inner peace.

Over time, various forms of yoga have emerged, with most of them emphasising the relief from pain and discomfort. Yoga focuses on postures (asanas) and how they can be combined to create a seamless flow, helping us to gain flexibility, reduce tension, control thoughts and emotions, focus and to cultivate an inner calm. Further, yoga encourages us to practice self-love and compassion, enabling the management of life's challenges.
